TIRANA, Sept 7 /ATA/ – The United Nations Development Programme in Albania handed over the newly-rebuilt nine-year school and kindergarten “Fran Ivanaj” to the municipality of Lezha, northwest Albania, on Thursday.

The UNDP Albania office announced via the social media that the school and kindergarten were reconstructed under the European Union-funded EU4Schools programme.

“A fantastic day in Lezha! The UNDP Permanent Representative in Albania, Monica Merino, and Lezha Mayor Pjerin Ndreu, signed the protocol on official submission of the nine-year school and kindergarten Fran Ivanaj in Ishull-Shëngjin, an education facility reconstructed under the EU4Schools programme,” UNDP said.

“A total of 179 schoolchildren, 47 kids and 17 teachers will start new school year in contemporary, safer and decent education venues next week. A community of around 8,100 residents will benefit from the investment,” UNDP said.

More than 60 educational facilities are being constructed in 11 quake-affected municipalities across Albania thanks to the EU and UNDP partnership. More than 25 000 schoolchildren, students and teachers will benefit from the ongoing programme.

Construction of 44 schools has already completed and work is underway on construction of 16 more educational facilities, the UNDP Albania said.
