Infrastructure Minister highlights need to further rehabilitate infrastructure in popular destination amid tourist influx

TIRANA,  Aug 12 /ATA/  – The Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku acknowledged Saturday the need to put more effort and speed up projects designed to widen and upgrade road segments leading to increasingly popular destinations, including the coastal village of Ksamil, southern Albania.

The little-known village of Ksamil has earned a name as the “Maldives of Europe” as it has now become one of Europe’s most sought-after destinations.

“Watching an aerial video posted by my friend Alket Islami, showing how visitors to Ksamil, recently nicknamed as the Maldives of Europe, have to wait on long queues for them to accommodate,” Balluku said.

The Infrastructure Minister said that efforts are underway for five years now to find a final solution to the road infrastructure in the country’s south through investment projects that are either complete or are nearing completion.

“Projects like the Skërfice tunnel, Kardhiq-Delvinë road, Orikum-Dukat road, Vlora bypass road, Palasë-Dhërmi road  or the Llogara tunnel are the pride of the Albanian infrastructure,” she wrote.

“However, the huge influx of visitors this summer put the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, the Road Authority and the Albanian Development Fund in face of a fresh challenge and responsibility,” she said.

She underlined the need to speed up projects on rehabilitation and expansion of the tourist roads, including road leading to Ksamil, in order to ease traffic during the tourist season.
