Albanian and Greek police cooperate on handling of travelers at border crossing points

TIRANA, Aug 8 /ATA/ The directors of the Border Police and Migration Departments of the Republic of Albania and Greece met on Tuesday as was agreed upon by the relevant ministers of both countries.

The meeting between Senior Director, Saimir Boshnjaku and Major General, Dimitrios Mallios, focused on the management of the flow of travelers at the border crossing points, as well as the strengthening of cooperation in the fight against border crimes.

The directors of the Albanian and Greek border police expressed their appreciation for the very good bilateral cooperation, and agreed on intensification of joint measures for managing the influx, as well as on increasing the number of counters on both sides of the border.

Boshnjaku said in a media briefing, after the meeting with the Greek counterpart in Kakavija that, “we had a meeting today with the director of the Greek Border Police, regarding the management of the situation at the crossing points on the border with Greece. In the framework of bilateral cooperation, we say that the situation is normal, despite the increasing flow of citizens day by day. We have taken
these measures and I believe that we will be very efficient at management of border crossings.

“With the Greek side, especially with the Department of Border Police and Migration, this cooperation has worked very well so far. We ask for the understanding of all citizens, in case of queues, which at the moment are acceptable and at normal levels, but we believe that thanks to the cooperation between the two parties and the measures that will be taken on both sides of the border, the handling of citizens crossing the border will be seamless,” he said.
