Parliament rejects opposition’s requests for debate and interpellation on incinerators

TIRANA, July 20 /ATA/- By Maela Marini/ Parliament rejected the requests of the opposition for urgent debate and questions and answers session with Prime Minister Edi Rama, on the issue of incinerators.
Before the vote in the Assembly, the deputy chairman of the parliamentary group of the Socialist Party, Toni Gogu, said that the Assembly’s regulation does not provide for the urgent motion.
Citing the regulation, Gogu said that the Assembly can decide by open vote in any case to hold the debate, which cannot take place later than 30 days from the date of submission of the request.

“The request of the minority is followed by an urgent request for an urgent interpellation. The regulation does not provide for this either. This is called a false emergency. There is an urgency among them, but there is no urgency for the Assembly,” he said.

Gogu went on saying that the Assembly has delved deep on this issue and established an investigative commission chaired by the opposition.

“The Prime Minister was asked about these questions that Gazment Bardhi posed today, he answered for hours. After 3 years, the same request is not a matter of emergency any more. It was exhausted, because 3 years have passed since we compiled the report, the Prosecutor’s Office has received it and started the work,” he said.

Gogu emphasized that in the investigative commission, the Prime Minister testified for hours and he did so not as a Prime Minister who shuns the investigative commission and the courts.
He demanded the dismissal of the request for debate and interpellation because, according to him, “they are not based on the regulation of the Assembly.”
