Sako in podcast with Rama: Transformed Durrës, more modern and cleaner

TIRANA, April 22/ATA/ The incumbent Mayor of Durrës, who is running again in the May 14 elections under the flag of the ruling Socialist Party, was the guest in the third episode of Prime Minister Edi Rama’s “Flasim” podcast.

PM Rama described Sako as the architect who was never involved in politics, until the day of the earthquake when she came at the head of the municipality of Durrës and in 1094 days she has transformed her city into one of the cleanest in Albania, thanks a character of special seriousness.

“We met under extraordinary circumstances, in the context of an extraordinary situation”, Rama recalled.

“At the time when I took over the office, it was not possible to do activities on the ground due to the pandemic, that is, two overlapping challenges: the earthquake and the pandemic”, said Sako.

Rama asked her further if she remembered anything from the dramatic mass exodus from Durrës.

Sako said that, “I think that these memories are still fresh for more than 30 years. On August 8, 2021, we had an activity in the city of Bari, that is, the municipality of Durrës and the municipality of Bari, in memory of the launch of the “Vlora” ship. There were meetings and exhibitions there.”

After talking about her life, the conversation focused on the city of Durrës and her work.

Sako said that during the last 20 years, Durrës has undergone a transformation and has become more modern and clean.

Sako emphasized that, “Durres has undergone a continuous transformation in these 20 years; it is a city that has become more modern, more open, there is a large increase in the number of tourists; it keeps growing every year and this definitely affects the services, the quality of the services provided by the business sector, but during my work I have tried to deal with the homework; that is, cleaning, lighting and greenery of the city, so I have given it a very high priority”.

“Today, Durrës is definitely a cleaner city, this is what all its residents say. I cannot say that I am satisfied with the work; there is always room to improve and do more, but even with the major projects we have together, we think we will give a new place to our city, not only in the role it has in Albania, but also at the international level”, said Sako. /k.s/p.s./
