TIRANA, April 16 /ATA/ – Orthodox Christians are celebrating Easter on Sunday following the midnight Resurrection Mass.
Easter is an important festival and cultural holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ after He was crucified on Good Friday, symbolizing His victory over death and triumph of life.
Hundreds of Orthodox faithful attended the Resurrection Mass at the Saint George Church in Tirana on Saturday midnight.
The large number of faithful who had thronged the church and the street outside the church prayed for peace, benevolence, and harmony in their families. They lit candles to earn God’s blessing.
In his Easter message to Orthodox faithful, Anastasios Archbishop of Tirana, Durres and all Albania said: “Let the light of the Resurrection illuminate our life and let the Holy Spirit grant us endurance, patience, and hope.”
Easter celebrations will end with the traditional Easter Sunday lunch for family and friends. “Christ resurrected” is the “refrain” of this festive day which is expressed unanimously by all believers by the red Easter egg tapping, symbolizing the blood of Christ.
