Albanian Power Exchange to become operational on April 12

TIRANA, April 8 /ATA/ – The Albanian Power Exchange (ALPEX) will become operational on April 12.

The introduction of a day-ahead market and the start of trading fulfill one of Albania’s main objectives as part of the country’s obligations and commitments of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, the Energy Regulator (ERE) and the Power Transmission Operator (OST) to the South East Europe energy treaty.

The energy regulator approved this week ALPEX’s proposal and the market’s time unit that coincides with 00:00 hrs, April 12, as the day when the Power Exchange will become operational.

ALPEX is expected to operate the organized electricity market (day-ahead and intra-day) in Albania and Kosovo, by having market coupling between Albanian and Kosovo electricity market, and to facilitate future coupling with other neighbouring markets in accordance with EU electricity market regulations and the European Target Model.

The move will pose new challenges to market stakeholders in Albania, including the Energy Regulator.
