TIRANA, April 6 /ATA/ U.S. Ambassador Yuri Kim this week visited seven northern municipalities – Klos, Mat, Mirditë, Shkoder, Vau i Dejës, Pukë, and Fushë-Arrës – as part of her travels to meet with Albanians from every corner of the country.
The Ambassador had the chance to connect with people from many walks of life, from community leaders like Bishop Gjergj Meta to teachers, students and young people who are learning English through Embassy-supported initiatives and working to improve their communities. Young people and business owners shared the region’s rich cultural traditions. They also discussed their concerns as well as hopes for the future. Ambassador Kim paid special tribute to Musine Kokalari and Marie Tuci, and others who resisted communism in the name of freedom and dignity. She also visited the Church of Saint Mary, where caretaker Pashuk Deja told her about its storied past. In Fushe Arrez, the Ambassador met with a Peace Corps Volunteer who lives there to hear about the work he is doing with the local community.
