Veliaj: Municipalities are not instruments to oppose government

TIRANA, March 28 /ATA/ The mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, said that the Socialist Party will win 40 seats in the next municipal council.
In a televised interview, Veliaj underlined that this number of mandates will enable the continuation of projects in the capital.

“Our ambition is to insure more than half in the new city council, and maybe around 40 members. According to surveys, which are conducted systematically, we will secure above 50% of seats. Meanwhile, at least 1/3 of the council will be represented by members of the opposition forces and this is more than welcome. The return of the opposition to the municipality, as was their return to the Parliament, first and foremost helps those who govern, be it the prime minister or the mayor. Therefore, I am also enthusiastic about their return, but on the other hand, as a political leader, I understand that we will no longer have 61 members and we will have to come with a vigil team that has to adapt to this new reality”, said Veliaj.
