TIRANA, March 3 /ATA/ – Legal representative of the so-called Reestablishment Commission, Oerd Bylykbashi stated that the Tirana’s Court of Appeals ruling to send the main opposition Democratic Party leadership issue for retrial to the First Instance Court was “a dark day for the justice.”
Speaking to reporters, Bylykbashi claimed that the Court’s ruling was made under the pressure from Prime Minister Edi Rama.
“It is unequivocal. Today’s ruling was openly made under the pressure from Edi Rama, as already announced several days ago by Rama’s cabinet member, after the continued pressure throughout tall this time. The pressure on the court was evident in the courtroom today and this is a ruling to exclude opposition from elections,” lawmaker Bylykbashi said.
Asked whether the DP faction headed by former Prime Minister Sali Berisha would register for the upcoming May 14 mayoral elections, Bylykbashi noted that any further steps would be approved by the party structures.
“The DP elected bodies, and not the ones appointed by the Prime Minister, will address this issue. The decision will be made by the DP bodies. What we want to state today is that this is a dark day for pluralism and Albanian democracy. Court showed that it is ultimately totally under Edi Rama’s yoke,” he concluded.
