TIRANA, Feb 13 /ATA/ The Parliamentary Committee for Production Activities, Trade and Environment discussed on Monday the draft law “On promoting the use of energy from renewable resources.”
Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Ilir Bejtja, said that, “the draft law is one of the main strategic instruments that helps the government achieve economic, social and environmental objectives, through a responsible, effective and transparent system of harnessing energy resources and applying good management practices with the aim of increasing efficiency and reducing energy costs by focusing on renewables.”
According to him, the draft law comes in the follow-up to discussions with stakeholders and is aligned with EU directives.
“Albania is committed in the framework of the acquis to meet the national objective for renewable energy. The purpose of the draft law is to develop support policies to increase the use of renewable energy and to make consumers aware of the great benefit that the use of renewable energy sources brings to the environment and to their health,” said Bejtja.
According to him, renewable energy is not a burden on the state budget as it is fed by the tariff on end consumers.
“The produced energy surplus will be sold on the exchange market. Today we have 100% energy production from renewable resources such as hydro and photovoltaic sources, soon we will harness the power of wind to generate energy and a part of the energy that is not called renewable secured through import is generated from fossil fuels,” deputy minister said.
He said that, therefore, the law provides for ways that enable the promotion of electricity production from renewables, which includes support measures for the production of electricity from renewable energy resources, responsibilities related to balancing and flexibility, support schemes, steps related to the competitive process, support measures for demonstration projects.
