Kosovar karateka refuse to compete without their flag in Cyprus

TIRANA, February 8 /ATA/ Kosovar karate players refused to compete without the Kosovar flag at the European U21 Karate Championship that was held in Cyprus.

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports of Kosovo Hajrulla Çeku praised the stance of the Kosovar karate players.

“These talented karate players put their country and flag before personal success. They defended the Republic of Kosovo in Cyprus by refusing to compete without a flag at the European U21 Karate Championship. Although they did not manage to compete and win European medals, these boys and girls became heroes of our hearts”, wrote Minister Çeku in social media.

Furthermore, the Kosovar minister stated that the action of the host country, Cyprus, is shameful, and that Kosovo will do everything to ensure that it does not pass without consequences.

During recent years, Kosovo has registered a number of important victories at the international level, as far as the sport of karate is concerned, especially victories from women karate players. /p.s./
