TIRANA, January 27 /ATA/ The Chairman of the Parliamentary group of the Socialist Party Taulant Balla participated today in the meeting of the National Council of European Integration, where Rapporteur for Albania in the European Parliament Isabel Santos was also present.
In his speech, Balla said that, “Albania is making progress on the journey towards membership in the European Union”.
“The bilateral meeting with the European Commission on the first chapters of democracy and human rights has ended, confirming also Albania’s determination not to waste time in this process,” said Balla.
Balla highlighted the role that the Assembly should have in this process in the future.
“I am fully convinced of the central role and the contribution that the Assembly can and should make in this process. Together with the opposition we have set up a special commission to review the role of the Assembly in this process. Among the objectives of this Ad Hoc Commission is the review of the role of the EU integration commission and of course the National Council for European Integration, referring to the most successful models and lessons learned from the countries that have passed through this process before”, added Balla.
He reiterated that the role of civil society and experts would be welcome in this open debate on the review of the role of the Assembly and Parliamentary bodies through concrete proposals addressed to the Commission.
“The special commission will certainly come out with a report in the coming weeks regarding the changes that will have to be reflected in the law “on the role of the Assembly in the process of integration of the Republic of Albania into the European Union” aiming to strengthen its role in relation to this very important process for Albania”, said Balla. /m.m/p.s./
