TIRANA, January 24 /ATA/ The Albanian government extended today the status of “Children in the Care of the Republic” to 5 children of heroes who gave their lives on duty, Shkëlzen Dobrushi, Roland Likaj and Artan Çuku.
After the first 15 children who have received this special status, today, the status of “Children in the Care of the Republic” is given to 5 other children, honoring the sublime act of their parents, who have sacrificed their lives for the protection of the lives of others.
Prime Minister Edi Rama received today the families of three police officers who fell on duty, Shkëlzen Dobrushi and Roland Likaj and Artan Çuku.
During the meeting, PM Rama handed over the special status “Children in the Care of the Republic” to the children of the late police officers.
Attending the meeting were Minister of Health and Social Protection Ogerta Manastrliu and Minister of the Interior Bledi Çuçi.
The prime minister emphasized that this status is the embodiment of the government’s will to support all the children of the fallen until they leave school or university, with a monthly pension of up to 150% of the parent’s salary, part of a package of support from the state for them and their mothers.
“We had many discussions from time to time. It could not be the modest aid because practically these children lost a parent who was at work and had a salary to support home. Thus, we thought to provide them with more than the salary so that at least from the economic point of view the children have no worries and no shortages. We are really satisfied with this status because it fulfills the financial need in a very meaningful way. Even if it is 5 times the spiritual void, I cannot fill it, but I hope that they also have the awareness that they should honor their fathers to the end”, said PM Rama.
PM Rama emphasized that support for children who have lost their parents on duty will continue to remain one of the government’s priorities, especially in the field of education, where they will find maximum support./m.m/j.p/p.s./
