Orthodox believers celebrate Holy Epiphany feast today

TIRANA, January 6 /ATA/ Every January 6, Christians celebrate the Feast of the Holy Epiphany and that concludes all New Year celebrations. This day is also known as the day of the blessed water because the Orthodox Church also celebrates it as the day of the baptism of Jesus Christ in the Jordan River. While being baptized by John the Baptist, a white dove stood over Jesus’ head, the symbol of God’s appearance on earth.

The Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania congratulated all Christian believers today with one of Onufri’s masterpieces, a 16th century wood tempera, which is in the Museum of Medieval Art, Korça, taken from the Evangelical Church, Berat.

Berat National Center of Museums also took the opportunity to highlight one of the many pearls, part of the collection of the Museum of Iconography “Onufri”, “Baptism of Christ”, work by Johan Çetiri. The icon was made in the tempera technique on wood and gold leaf and dates from 1812-1814.

In some cities of the country, where the number of Christians is higher, the Orthodox Church organizes the throwing of the cross into the sea, the lake or the rivers, and among the young believers, there takes place a race to catch the cross. Meanwhile, congratulations to all those whose name derives from the name Theofani, such as Epifan, Epifania. /j.p/p.s./
