TIRANA, Dec 17 /ATA/ – Heavy rainfall that has swept across Albania over the past few days has significantly increased inflows to the major dams of three main hydropower plants on the Drin River Cascade, allowing the Power Corporation to generate enough electricity to meet the domestic demand, as well as export electricity to the international market.
The Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku, also Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, said Saturday that the water level at the Fierza dam has increased to 290 meters, significantly up from 267 meters at the beginning of November.
Given the improved situation in the country’s main hydropower plants, the government decided not to apply higher price rate on households consuming over 800 kWh during December too.
In the meantime, the Energy Regulator cancelled earlier this week the decision to apply higher electricity price on families and businesses consuming over 800 Kilowatt-hour per month.
The Albanian Power Corporation (KESH) said that the accumulated electricity reserve was estimated 340 gigawatt hours at the end of November, increasing the reserve rate to 919 gigawatt hours from 579 gigawatt hours in beginning of November.
The daily consumption of electricity is currently estimated at 17 800 megawatt hours.
