Opposition protest, Berisha: Europe should learn truths about Albania

TIRANA, Dec  6  /ATA/- On Tuesday, the opposition staged a protest on the “Martyrs of the Nation” boulevard called by the Democratic Party head, Sali Berisha, and the Freedom Party head, Ilir Meta.

The protest started at around 12:00hrs with the citizens converging near the podium set up in front of the former “Dajti” hotel, a few meters away from the security cordon established by the State Police in the framework of the EU-Western Balkans Summit that is taking place in Tirana.

As Berisha and Meta were heading to the “Dëshmorët e Kombit” boulevard, a citizen approached the former Prime Minister Berisha and punched him in his face.

The aggressor was beaten by the bodyguards, while the head of the opposition was injured in the face.

According to information published in various media outlets, the aggressor who punched the DP head is Gert Shehu. He was arrested and escorted to Police Station No. 1 of Tirana.

In his remarks at the opposition protest in Tirana, the DP head Sali Berisha expressed his gratitude to all leaders of EU and WB for holding the EU-WB summit on Tuesday in Tirana.

Berisha said that today is a great support for the EU integration of Albania.

“For us, it is a very special occasion to express to them, to their countries, the most boundless gratitude for the comprehensive support you give to the Albanians.

The presence of the EU’s top officials is the greatest support that European values in Albania have received in our country. This summit is a great support for the Albanians and the DP, the political force that in the battle for European values, with the motto: We want  Albania  to be like the rest of Europe, overthrew the communist dictatorship. Three decades ago, we embarked on the path to democracy as the third poorest nation on the planet. Today, since that time, the income have increased at least 25 times. The generosity of your nations and countries has been of essential importance in this achievement, so we remain forever indebted to you and your taxpayers,” the DP head said.

He emphasized that “we cannot accept that this summit is considered as a support for Edi Rama.”

“Today we pledge that without the free vote, there is and will be no stability in Albania”, Berisha said.

The Chairman of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, in his remarks at the protest, stated that, “the time has come for words and speeches to give way to concerted actions to show the country, the most bastard offspring of this land, who organized today on the day of the European Summit, an event worthy of a schizophrenic, delinquent and traitorous Prime Minister.”
