Nikolla-Mitsotakis: Unequivoval support for European integration of Albania

TIRANA, December 6/ATA/- Speaker of the Assembly Lindita Nikolla received Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis today in the venues of the Presidency of the Assembly.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece Nikos Dendias, Ambassador of Greece in Tirana Konstantina Kamitsi and other senior officials of the Greek government were also present at the meeting.

Speaker Nikolla thanked PM Mitsotakis for his first visit to Tirana and participation in the historic European Union-Western Balkans Summit.

“The summit is a milestone in the European integration process of Albania and the region; a case for the EU that showed that enlargement policy is irreversible; an opportunity for the countries of the Western Balkans to prove that the EU is the only common destination for the region; a well-deserved chance for Albania to reaffirm its European identity and vision and for European leaders to see closely the already identified integration reforms and achievements. Albania is grateful to Greece for the strong and unconditional support for our European journey, for the close partnership in the NATO, for the excellent political, economic and commercial cooperation, for the close friendly relations between the citizens of our two countries. Albanian emigrants in Greece and the Greek minority in Albania contribute to strengthening the friendship between the two countries. Parliamentary cooperation is promoting and supporting the all-round bilateral cooperation between Albania and Greece”, said Nikolla.

On his part, PM Mitsotakis thanked Speaker Nikola for the warm welcome and appreciated that the European Union-Western Balkans Summit was very successful and the European leaders saw closely Albania’s indisputable achievements on the path of European integration.

“Greece has supported and will continue to unequivocally support the European integration of Albania and the Western Balkans. There are very strong and very close ties between our two countries, and these ties are also supported by the Greek minority in Albania and the Albanian emigrants in Greece, who constitute a success story. Greece is interested in the intensification of economic cooperation and the increase of investments in Albania, in the sectors of energy, agriculture, etc. We are also ready to help the Assembly and the Government with technical assistance for the negotiations”, said Mitsotakis. /p.s./
