TIRANA, Dec 5 /ATA/ On December 5-6, 2022, the Bank of Albania organizes the16th economic research workshop for South-East Europe.
The opening remarks were delivered by the Bank of Albania Governor, Gent Sejko, as well as the Swiss ambassador to Albania, Ruth Huber.
Governor Sejko said in his remarks that this activity will focus on presentation, discussion and exchange of research between colleagues in counterpart institutions, who work in the relevant field and cope with the same challenges. He added that this workshop will serve to have a better understanding of the origin and complexity of the challenges we are facing and to design the appropriate policies to address them.
Furthermore, the Governor added that over the years, the workshop of the Bank of Albania has changed and evolved in a myriad of ways to be in step with the new challenges and situations. This year, it takes place at a time like no other: as we are grappling with the complications associated with the gradual phase-down of policies implemented during the pandemic, new risks have emerged to be taken into account.
Governor Sejko emphasized that Albania is coping with the challenge of soaring international prices of energy and essential products in international markets, the tightening of financial rules by the main partners and in global markets, which will likely continue and lead to economic slowdown in Europe. In October, inflation rate reached 8.3%, posing the main threat to macroeconomic stability, as well as to Albania’s stable and long-term growth.
Furthermore, the Governor underlined that the numerous studies carried out in the field of monetary policy have documented the real risk that high and stable inflation carries, as well as inflationary expectations for economies and families.
