TIRANA, Dec 5 /ATA/ The appreciation of our currency against the European one has helped us in our efforts to control and contain inflation.
This is what the Bank of Albania Governor, Gent Sejko, said in his address at the 16th South-Eastern Economic Research Workshop, which took place in Tirana. He pointed out that, “during the year 2022, our currency, the lek, has appreciated on average by 2.5% against the euro, thanks to the significant income generated by tourism, high Foreign Direct Investments, and contained risk premiums.”
Sejko said that the Bank of Albania has undertaken a process of gradual normalization of the monetary policy, ensuring that the speed of normalization will bring inflation back to the target rate, within a reasonable period of time and with the lowest possible costs for economic activity.
The governor stated that the convergence of the cycle of our monetary policy with that of the eurozone further reinforced the appreciation of the lek.
