TIRANA, November 21/ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama stated today that, “The Electric Corporation KESH has decided to import electricity according to the procedure on November 11 because from all the weather forecasts, the rainfall situation was expected to intensify only at noon on November 20. And if it didn’t import, the energy reserve would be at the historical minimum, endangering the normal energy supply of the country”.
In a reaction on social media, Rama said that, “While all the relevant structures, from civil emergency forces, military troops, state police, energy system employees, leaders and respective ministers are on the ground, on duty night and day, there has been slander, accusations and various speculations”.
Rama said that the most of disinformation is about the import of energy.
“The amount of precipitation resulted in extreme levels with record values in the basins of Koman and Vau de Deja – 150% of the forecast, according to international weather analysis models! In Theth alone, over 400 mm of rain fell in 12 hours with a peak intensity of up to 50 mm/hour. This amount of rainfall was rendered into flows that reached up to 4000 m3/sec in the Drin river, where only in the lakes of Koman and Vau i Deja the water flows went up to 3500 m3/sec”, said Rama.
PM Rama also said that, “Under these circumstances, as early as November 19, there were taken measures according to the relevant protocols, opening the discharge gates to create accumulation opportunities in both these lakes and guaranteeing the safety of the dams”.
Currently, continued Rama, all 9 generators of Koman and Vau de Deja are working and are being discharged again due to unaffordable flows.
“But, by discharging water in a controlled manner, KESH has ensured that the effect of rainfall in the area of Shkodra does not overlap! On the contrary, it has made it possible to reduce the peak of the maximum flows in this area, lowering the maximum water level”, said Rama.
Rama stated that, “In order not to worsen the situation, all the flows in the upper basin of the cascade, which come from the Black and White Drini River, have been accumulating for days in the Fierza Lake (with quite large storage capacity) keeping the production 0 mW”.
