Rama: Insurance scheme for natural disaster-affected farmers

TIRANA, Oct 21 /ATA/ – By Maela Marini/ Prime Minister Edi Rama inspected Friday in Gjergjan, Elbasan, a greenhouse of vegetable seedlings which supplies the country and exports, a green tech investment with zero pollution and less cost for the farmer, eliminating excess pesticides.

This point, which produces 14 million seedlings per year contributes to the increase of quality in addition to quantity, while farmers are also supported by the government’s ever-growing schemes for registered seedlings.

Prime Minister informed that the government is working towards an insurance scheme for farmers, which has been piloted in a number of countries.

Meanwhile, another scheme should be created for the collection points where farmers and the municipality are shareholders, he said.

“If we leave it to the market for someone to do it, such a thing is not for sure. The state itself cannot do it. But the municipality with a group of interested farmers can establish a joint stock company. Farmers contribute symbolic equity, 100,000 lek, the municipality as well and then they will turn to European funds or national schemes and sovereign guarantee,” said Rama.
