TIRANA, Oct 16 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama announced Sunday that Albania’s initial satellites named “Albania 1” and “Albania 2” are about to be launched into orbit from the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida, the United States of America, in collaboration with Satellogic Inc., a leading U.S. sub-meter resolution Earth Observation (“EO”) data collection operator.
The government head said that the two satellites “will be the super technologically advanced and aerial eyes that will control the country’s territory from the space with a high precision and image resolution up to 75 cm2.”
“Albania will exclusively use the two satellites to collect and process geo-spatial data (GIS) as well as to provide image capabilities and other components for a number of institutions and subjects, both public or private ones, tasked with control and management of the territory, water, forests, fires, urban waste, agricultural production, urban development, ownership titles, and so on,” he said.
PM Rama has stated earlier that “with the launch of these satellites, Albania opens up a new chapter as part of its law enforcement efforts and the fight against corruption.”
Last month, Albania’s National Civil Protection Agency and Satellogic Inc., a leading U.S. sub-meter resolution Earth Observation (“EO”) data collection operator, signed the Satellite Service Contract on the defence and security area to develop satellite imagery capabilities and monitor the territory of the Republic of Albania.
