TIRANA, Oct 16 /ATA/ – First artificial intelligence laboratory at the newly-rebuilt Sami Frasheri high school in the Albanian capital city of Tirana on Sunday, a project set to be implemented in other high education institutions in Tirana and other cities across the country.
In his remarks at a ceremony also attended by the Education Minister Evis Kush, and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Albanian-American Development Foundation (AADF) Michael Granoff, Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj said he was proud that the project implementation was starting at Sami Frasheri high school.
“I am really and especially proud that this project’s implementation starts at Sami Frasheri school. When I used to attend this school at the old school building back in 1994 and 1998, you had to do whatever it took so that you could be enrolled in the German language classes. The group of around 20 students were lucky enough to sit German classes as it was a ticket to integrate into the civilized world. Today, if you don’t know the Python coding language, you would lack the ticket to aim high in your life,” Veliaj said.
Mayor Veliaj said that the project will expand to include more high educations schools across the country and in at least 10 more schools in Tirana.
Chairman of the Board of Trustees of AADF, Michael Granoff, explained how Albania was picked to host this important project.
“When we started, what we thought we should do was to identify the problems and ways to fix the lives of Albanians in the long run. We then had to look for the best models across the world, introduce them to Albania and to adapt them. None of us imagined that INTEL could choose Albania for a pilot project; who would have thought this could happen several years ago. Our ability to convince INTEL to device this program is an indicator of what we can accomplish together,” Granoff said.
Since its approval in December 2019, the Coding Academy has had a major impact on education and employment in Albania.
