Rama: Albania does not produce all necessary energy, hence we are building Skavica

TIRANA, September 2 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama stated today that Albania cannot produce all the energy it consumes even in the years with more rainfall.

At the joint press conference from Belgrade at the end of the “Open Balkans” summit, Rama said that there is a misunderstanding that persists with part of the public opinion, according to which since we are based on hydro-energy we have fully secured energy and it is enough not to sell it.

“It is a very big misunderstanding, because first of all, we cannot produce even on our best time when there is a lot of rain, we cannot produce all the energy we consume. Even during the rainy years we have to go to the market to import electricity. We do not have the opportunity to store excess water when we have a lot of rain, so when there is no rain, in the summer period, we depend a lot on imports”, he said.

Rama emphasized that the new hydropower plant that is in process (HEC of Skavica) will also be the depositor of an important part of the amount of rain collected.

“We have started the voltaic parks while the others are in the process of integrating liquefied gas throughout this structure. We will be in much better conditions, but today it is clear that we are in difficult conditions. Like everyone else here, we have an extraordinary need for patience, support and cooperation”, he said./r.e/p.s./
