TIRANA, August 31/ATA/- Head of the Albanian Olympic Committee Fidel Ylli stated today that in European countries, the state controls sports betting and then invests the money it earns in sports fields, in sports palaces, in swimming pools.
During the public hearing held today at the Premier’s Office on whether sports betting should be legally opened, Ylli stated that online betting is being controlled by strongmen.
According to him, “This is a phenomenon that is spread more than before and the state does not have any kind of control”.
“It is played with 20 and 30 million lekë per week. And we ask a question, where do they find this money? It’s drugs money, smuggling. So this is a phenomenon that I have said we must close and I am for closing it, Mr. Prime Minister, but to close betting in black, to bring it to light, to be controlled by the state and not controlled by the private sector “, emphasized Ylli.
According to him, betting companies are present all over Europe.
He mentioned the models of Italy, France, Germany or Sweden, which receives 810 million Euros per year from betting companies./p.s./
