TIRANA, August 18/ATA/ The Marubi Museum impressive collection is put on display at the Manifesta Biennal 14 which is taking place in Kosovo.
“With a collection of 500,000 negatives dating from the second half of the 19th century to the end of the 20th century, the archive of the Marubi National Museum of Photography has countless stories to tell,” is read on the Biennal’s online website.
The exhibition is entitled “Pjetër Marubi, a photographer in Ottoman Albania” and is curated by Luçjan Bedeni, director of the Marubi Museum. Bedeni is also the author of an authoritative study of the evolution of the studio, which looks at Marubi’s history through the lens of migration.
The materials selected for this exhibition are installed in a residence with oriental architecture, reminiscent of the style of the structure where Marubi built his photography studio.
The curatorial concept of the exhibition is based on a selection of images that also tell us about the relationship between the Italian refugees in Shkodra in the 19th century.
Manifesta Biennial is a European roving contemporary art biennale, taking place in different city every other year. In 2019, the Supervisory Board of Manifesta selected Prishtina, the capital of Kosovo to host the 2022 biennale – Manifesta 14, making it the first city in the Western Balkans to host the nomadic event.
