Rama: 34 categories excluded from fiscal amnesty

TIRANA, July 15 /ATA/ – By Maela Marini/ Prime Minister Edi Rama stated on Friday that there are 34 categories that are excluded from the law on fiscal amnesty, starting from high state officials and their family members to administration and police employees.

In the public consultation on the fiscal amnesty bill, Rama said that “the law definitely has risks, but first and foremost, we are making a law that is in compliance with the Constitution of the Republic of Albania.”

“We are making a law that, compared to the fiscal and criminal amnesties authorized in EU countries, is much more stringent. Take a look at the amnesty articles, it’s a whole category from the president and former presidents with their families, MPs and former MPs with their families, ministers and former ministers with their families, judges, prosecutors, employees of tax and customs administration, policemen with their families and elected officials such as governors, vice-governors, boards, etc. who are excluded from the scope of this law,” said Rama.

The Prime Minister added that “there are 34 types of categories that are excluded and are unlikely to benefit from the amnesty.”

“All those who are subject to the ‘Force of the Law’ operation, not just convicts, but also those who are under investigation or suspected in Albania and Europe, are excluded from the possibility to benefit from the law on amnesty. If the British police launched an investigation, that subject does not come here to deposit money anywhere,” Rama said.

However, the Prime Minister added that “when we read the criticisms, we understand that we are not dealing with people who have gone over the law and want to improve the law, but with people who want to tell Albania: ‘This cannot be done, you are not able to do this, you are not a mature country.”
