Nikolla: Justice reform is dispelling myth of impunity

TIRANA, June 24/ATA/ Speaker of the Assembly Lindita Nikolla stated today in her welcoming speech at the International Conference of Justice Inspection Services, “Public interest in the administration of justice and the independence of magistrates”, which was held at the Palace of Brigades, that the public interest and the independence of magistrates are two essential issues of justice reform and the justice system itself ”.

“The basic reason for launching the justice reform was that the justice system did not serve the public interest and the citizens, but a to a corrupted class. Therefore, the reform had, from the beginning, and continues to have, the massive support of citizens and international partners “, stressed Nikolla.

“Today, we have a different reality. The most important feature of this reality is the overthrow of some myths of the system and the rotten justice system and the progress towards a justice system, as an independent power in the democratic system”, she said

These myths, pointed out the Speaker of the Assembly, “are being demolished and in this respect the High Inspectorate of Justice has its merit, one of the new and most important governing bodies of the system. It is justifying public, political and national expectations, contributing to a clean justice system that delivers justice and does not bargain with justice.”

Also, Nikolla underlined that the Assembly has supported and will continue to support the independence of the system and the strengthening of the judiciary, in particular the High Inspectorate of Justice, with the necessary financial, human and logistical resources.

Attending the conference are leaders and representatives of the Justice Inspectorates of several EU countries: Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Romania and Spain.

Also present are US Deputy Ambassador Demian Smith, Chargé d’Affaires of the EU Delegation Alexis Hupin, and representatives of international organizations in Tirana.

The main topics of the Conference are the independence of magistrates and respect for the public interest in the work of justice. /j.p/p.s./
