TIRANA, June 18 /ATA/ Gender equality and non-discrimination will be included for the first time in the Broadcasting Code for Audiovisual Media in Albania.
The Audiovisual Media Authority has started consulting roundtables on the draft of the new Code.
The second consultative meeting in partnership with UN WOMEN in Albania, took place on June 17, 2022, with the participation of women’s associations in our country.
This meeting follows the one with field journalists covering the chronicle and current affairs issues, as well as moderators of televised broadcasts.
This roundtable outlined the changes to the draft code, including a special section on gender equality issues.
Representatives of women’s associations commended the inclusion of this chapter and stressed the need for continuous training of audiovisual media staff on this phenomenon.
Journalists and civil society representatives welcomed these changes and gave their recommendations so that the code can serve as a catalyst for the prevention of gender-based discrimination in the audiovisual media.
