Tabaku: INSTAT manipulates figures, inflation rate higher than 6%

TIRANA May 23 /ATA/ – By I.Vata/ DP MP, Jorida Tabaku, stated that Albania is facing one of the biggest crises in recent years and INSTAT is manipulating the figures.

Speaking in parliament on the report of the Institute of Statistics activity for 2021, Tabaku said that INSTAT has been one of the most controversial institutions of the years for data accuracy, manipulation and quality of data that has released and unfortunately continues to do it even today.

“I think that the manipulation of INSTAT figures and data related to employment in agriculture, growth and product … etc has long been a bone of contention which I am not going to mention, yet I will touch on some elements related to economic growth and the quality of the data coming from this institution, ” she said.

“Today Albania is facing one of the biggest economic crises in recent years and the government keeps this under wraps. The inflation rate is the highest in the last 20 years. INSTAT says it is going up to 6%, in fact it is higher than that. Prices are rising while the country’s per capita income is the lowest in the region. According to the IMF, the country has the lowest GDP growth compared to the countries in the region and it is almost 2%, while according to forecasts, this figure will drop yet again,” she said.
