Balla: No proposal from Berisha will go through parliament

TIRANA, May 12 /ATA/ The chairman of the SP parliamentary group, Taulant Balla, told a news briefing on Thursday from the headquarters of the Assembly that “no proposal from Sali Berisha will go through the Albanian Parliament.”

“It is with great regret for anyone who is unaware or misinformed by some media outlets outside the territory of Albania that we have to inform that today’s vote in the Albanian Parliament on a request of some deputies has nothing to do with our clear and straightforward position condemning the Srebrenica massacre and genocide, instead it relates to our decision to dismiss and turn down any proposal coming from Sali Berisha, an independent Member of the Albanian Parliament, designated by the US for involvement in significant corruption, such as embezzlement of public funds and meddling in public processes, including the use of authority for personal gain and for undermining democracy,” said Balla.
Balla said that the SP is firm on its stand to dismiss any decision signed by Sali Berisha.

“The independent MP Sali Berisha has been designated by the US for significant corruption, undermining democracy and consequently, whenever this MP submits requests and motions to the Albanian Parliament, they will meet with disapproval,” he said.

Regarding Srebrenica, Balla stressed that we have been clear and straightforward in our position.

“Albania has been crystal clear on this issue. The Albanian Parliament on Thursday dismissed a request from an MP designated by the US, which has nothing to do with the proposal but has to do with the name of the MP behind it. It is not about the topic, it is about Sali Berisha. It seems disrespectful towards anyone in the region that among those who have proposed a resolution on the biggest massacre in Europe since the Second World War is this person who other the charges for breaking the embargo has been designated by the US for corruption,” said Balla.

Regarding the election of the President, Balla said that “whoever is proposed by Sali Berisha will not be approved.”
