TIRANA, March 19 /ATA/ – Albanian citizens gathered at Tirana’s main Skanderbeg Square on Saturday in their eighth protest over the rising prices of fuel and food items due to the impact of war in Ukraine.
Citizens began their march from Skanderbeg Square to the Prime Minister’s Office along the Martyrs of the Nation Boulevard. Participants warned that they plan to continue their protests for the next 24 hours.
Civil society activist Adriatik Lapaj read out a list of several demands, calling on government to act and stop further rise in prices.
“This is a protest for the dignity of mothers and fathers so that their children no longer keep leaving this country. We have come together in the face of arrogance and we have succeeded in stopping further increase of fuel price,” Lapaj said.
Albanians have been protesting for over a week over increased fuel, energy, and food prices, calling for various fiscal reliefs.
