TIRANA, March 7/ATA/ Chairman of the Democratic Party in opposition Luzim Basha stated today that the March 6 by-elections were an anomaly.
In a statement to the media on these elections, Basha stressed the need for major electoral reform.
“This election was an anomaly. The first anomaly that occurred was the monism-like voting of June 30, 2019. The second anomaly was that 4 of the mayors happened to be with criminal records. One passed away and the other decided to run. Under these circumstances, when there is no reflection on other anomalies of April 25 that led to the distortion of the will of the voters, I think that the vast majority of Albanians have understood even more clearly the need for a major electoral reform to which we are committed from the beginning and that is the main reason why we are in that Parliament, where two weeks ago we took a step forward by forcing the establishment of the commission for electoral reform together with the territorial reform and above all an Electoral Reform to give Albanians a political system that represents them, protects them and is accountable to them. This is not the case today. Today, we have a political system that has been put at the service of politicians, of a handful of politicians who have turned it into a power that enriches them, that makes them more and more rulers, while impoverishing Albanians,” he said.
Basha reiterated that there are no Albanians who do not understand that March 6 is not a normalcy, but an anomaly.
“Nothing has changed with the election crimes of April 25, already documented by the OSCE / ODIHR and not only denounced by the opposition; on the contrary, the problems have deepened. With the record low turn-out, this is already a fact that citizens abandoned the election process because there were no additional guarantees while in some cases formal guarantees were removed after the DP has denied commissioners. We have sent to SPAK three denunciations, for Shkodra, Dibra and Rrogozhina and we are also preparing for the Commissions of Election Administration Zones of Vora “, he said. /a.a/p.s./
