Xhaçka: Albania, highly committed to help Ukrainian people

TIRANA, March 4 /ATA/ Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka, stated that, “at the extraordinary meeting of the NATO Foreign Ministers the allies re-asserted the determination to support the people of Ukraine in its heroic war which is admired by the whole world. ”

In a statement after the NATO Foreign Ministers’ meeting, Xhaçka said that “many European countries, the European Union itself, the United States of America, have taken measures in support of the Ukrainian people that would have been unimaginable even a few months ago, supplying with weapons, passing packages of sanctions that are dealing a heavy blow to Russia, increasing tremendously the cost of this criminal aggression. Albania is among countries that have asked an ICC investigation into Russia’s war crimes in Ukraine.”

“Albania has been at the helm of the efforts to support Ukraine, even with concrete aid, but especially in the field of diplomacy, as was the resolution condemning Russia for invading Ukraine co-drafted by Albania which was overwhelmingly approved,” the chief diplomat said.

“I stressed at the meeting that more needs to be done to stop the unjustified attack on Ukraine and on the security of the international system,” she said.

“I want to guarantee the Albanian citizens, who have shown during these days an extraordinary solidarity with the Ukrainian people by collecting aid, that the role played by Albania has been highly appreciated by the allies and together with them we will continue the efforts in the Security Council, in NATO, in the OSCE, in the Council of Europe and in every international forum where we can offer our support to the Ukrainian people who, other than protection of Ukraine, fights for peace and security on the European continent,” Xhaçka declared.
