Kodheli: Unconditional support for territorial integrity of Ukraine

TIRANA, January 25/ATA/ Vice President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Mimi Kodheli participated in the meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Inter-parliamentary Council that took place yesterday in Brussels.

NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana briefed members of the Assembly on the concrete support the Alliance is providing Ukraine with during these hard times, as well as possible options in case of a further escalation of the situation.

During the joint press conference at NATO Headquarters, Kodheli reaffirmed the Assembly’s support for an important NATO partner, Ukraine.

“We are in full solidarity with Ukraine and unconditionally support Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity. The international community upholds the stance of resolving the issue through diplomacy. The Assembly supports the active diplomatic efforts of the allies, in close cooperation with Ukraine, to stop Russian aggression and to prevent the conflict,” Kodheli said.

Furthermore, she said, we must be clear that this crisis is not only related to Ukraine.

“Russia’s actions put into question the international rules established at the end of World War II, precisely with the sole purpose of not again facing the devastating consequences of a military aggression,” Kodheli said.

Ukraine has constantly received support from the NATO Assembly. This year, the Assembly has planned to hold the spring session in Kiev, as an expression of support for this partner on his way to membership in the North Atlantic Alliance./p.s./
