Albanian orthodox believers celebrate Epiphany

TIRANA, January 6 /ATA/ Orthodox believers across the country celebrated today the Epiphany.

On this day, hundreds and thousands of Christian believers gather together, but this time the large gatherings are banned due to the pandemic.

As it happens in many countries of the world, in Albania this ritual has been celebrated for years in cities such as Berat, Gjirokastra, Durres, Fieri, Lushnja and Korça by throwing the cross into the water.

Young people are the ones who become part of this rite, as every year, even in the challenging low temperatures of January, they jump into the water to catch the cross.

Several young people in Berat jumped into the Osum River to catch the cross.

This year, it was Pirenc Zharra from Gorica who succeeded to catch the cross and come with it out of the river./p.s./
