TIRANA, Dec 6 /ATA/ Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Frida Krifca, made an overview on Monday of recent developments as a result of torrential rainfall that have swept the entire territory as of Sunday evening.
“We stay in touch with the Directorates of Irrigation and Drainage closely following the situation caused by bad weather,” said Krifca.
The Minister informed that, “so far from the field inspections of the Irrigation and Drainage Directorates of Lezha, Durres, Fier and Korca, rounds of heavy rain have fallen all night and still continue, prompting a surge in water level of drainage infrastructure, without creating any problems ”.
“All pumping stations are working at full capacity and work is ongoing to keep water at normal levels, despite increased water inflows into the main collectors, which carry water to pumping stations,” said Krifca.
Also, according to minister, the rivers do not risk bursting the banks and in turn inundating the areas nearby.
Krifca added that the technical staff of the Irrigation and Drainage Directorates are on the ground closely following the situation, mainly to intervene with excavators in case of clogged drainage canals, as well as dynamically assessing river levels.
