Rushaj-Tabaku, meet Santos: Vetting of politicians serves citizens

TIRANA, November 9/ATA/-The Vice Presidents of the Democratic Party Alfred Rushaj and Jorida Tabaku held a meeting today with the Rapporteur for Albania in the European Parliament Isabelle Santos.

The DP representatives expressed the concern of the opposition for the absence of the rule of law in Albania and the authoritarian acts of the government.

According to them, one of the indicators is the disregard of the recommendation of the EU institutions for the anti-democratic law on online media, which the government continues to forward to the Assembly again and again.

DP Vice Presidents Alfred Rushaj and Jorida Tabaku acquainted the rapporteur for Albania in the EP with the initiatives the DP has launched starting with vetting of the politicians and senior officials, electoral reform and territorial administrative reform.

During the discussion, they argued that vetting is a vital act in clearing politics of the corrupt and organized crime-related part. Vice Presidents Rushaj and Tabaku assured the representative of the European Parliament that the process is planned to be carried out according to the proposals of the Venice Commission.

The Rapporteur for Albania Santos said that the integration process of the Western Balkans is in the focus of the European Parliament and that the steps followed by the candidate countries will be followed in detail.

She expressed satisfaction for this meeting with the opposition and congratulated the DP for the Parliamentary initiatives undertaken./p.s./
