TIRANA, October 22/ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama warned today that municipal councils will not approve any municipal budget, unless funds for cleaning are clearly foreseen.
PM Rama and Minister of Tourism and Environment Mirela Kumbaro held a meeting today with the Mayors and Prefects for waste management.
PM Rama said that, “We will cooperate closely with the mayors for this, but the words are running out”.
“The law clearly states that the mayors are responsible and the municipalities are financially sanctioned by law for actions of this nature. We will also proceed with sanctions until it takes over the administration of the municipality and takes the respective Mayor to the prosecutor’s office. This will be the end of the common journey if we do not find the right partners in the territory and guarantee that Albania will be an example of cleanliness in the next season “.
PM Rama said that in the meantime investments have been made and we have the end points, waste landfills, so the current situation is intolerable.
“None of us can co-exist with the shame of dirt. It is intolerable, unacceptable, so starting from next year’s budget each municipality should decide all the funds it needs to control the process best. This requires cost, budget, will and good administration “, said Rama./p.s./
