Archaeological discoveries in Përmet, typical specimens of Arbër culture

TIRANA, October 12 /ATA/ The discoveries made so far in the medieval cemetery in the Albanian South-Eastern region of Përmet have given impressive results, as the objects discovered as part of the inventory of excavated graves represent the most typical specimens of the Arbër culture of our country.

The National Institute of Cultural Heritage said that, “Since August, in the early medieval cemetery in the city of Përmet, there are being conducted archaeological excavations, led by specialists of the National Institute of Cultural Heritage. Students of the archaeology course from the Faculty of History and Philology have also become part of the excavations”.

According to the Institute, the discovered ornaments are mainly made of bronze and are preserved in very good condition. They are also worth of display in the museums.

From the preliminary study of the discovered objects, as well as the typology of the tombs, they can be dated to the VII – VIII AD.

The completion of the archaeological excavation in Përmet, as well as their in-depth study, will bring more accurate results and scientific information for researchers in the field as well as interested citizens.

The discovered treasures of Arbër culture are already an added value and potential for the cultural heritage of Albania./k.s // a.a/p.s./
