Kim: Safe democratic institutions provide for law enforcement

TIRANA, Oct 5 /ATA/ The US Ambassador to Albania, Yuri Kim, said that secure democratic institutions provide for law enforcement, implementation of justice reform, less corruption, more foreign investment and economic development.

Speaking at the meeting of Institute for Girls and Women in policies of national and international security, Kim said that our work at the U.S. Embassy in Albania focuses on three main priorities: defense, democracy, and business. Security is a common thread running through all of these priorities. Secure democratic institutions provide for law enforcement, implementation of justice reform, less corruption, more foreign investments, and economic development. When I look over your program, I see so many important topics confronting not only Albania and Kosovo but also the Balkans, Europe and the entire world. These are the same issues that your counterparts in Washington D.C. – from thinktanks to the White House – are working on right now.

Kim thanked the women who participate in this institute for their commitment to our shared goal of advancing global security. “You represent many different public and private institutions in Albania and Kosovo. You each have valuable insights and perspectives to share. Europe and the world need your unique insights and contributions,” Kim said.

For her part, Deputy Minister of Defense, Dallëndyshe Bici, emphasized that, “I am convinced that this moment will enable, not only a more positive perspective on the role of women in the field of security and defense, but will also generate ideas and concrete projects for a natural and real involvement of our women and girls in this ambitious challenge. ”
