TIRANA, August 21/ATA/ More and more local and foreign tourists visiting the “Rozafa” castle in the Northern Albanian city of Shkodra find it to be an amazing place where history, architecture, fantastic landscape are perfectly intertwined.
The Regional Directorate of National Culture in Shkodra released the increasing figures of the number of tourists during the period January-July this year, comparing them with last year.
“The number of visitors has increased. Thus, from January 1, 2021 to July 31, 2021 there were 24,131 visitors different from last year when there were 12,987 visitors. Thus, the number of visitors has increased by 86%”, said the Regional Directorate of National Culture Shkodër.
According to this Directorate, thanks to the tickets sold during the period January-July 2021, there were collected 5 113 500 lekë, different from last year when there were collected only 1 764 610 lekë.
The lit-up of “Rozafa” castle, an investment of the Ministry of Culture has turned it into a tourist attraction, visitable by local and foreign tourists even in the evening.
“Rozafa” Castle is one of the most ancient historical monuments in Albania. In the area within the surrounding walls of the castle, which include about 9 ha of land, there are clearly distinguished constructions of four periods: Balshaj (XIV century), Venetian domination (XV century), Ottoman occupation (XVI-XVII century), and Bushatlinj (XVIII-XIX centuries). Built during the Illyrian kingdom, there is a legend attached to it that shows the keeping of a promise, of the legendary word of honour./k.s/j.p/p.s./
