TIRANA, July 16 /ATA/ The OSCE Presence in Albania will co-operate with the Italian National Anti-Corruption Authority (INACA) to strengthen the capacities of the Supreme State Audit (SSA) in conducting audits of public procurement and improving their quality.
The first meeting to identify the needs of SSA and design the training program was held online on Friday.
The Chairman of the Presence, Vincenzo Del Monaco, who attended the meeting together with the President of INACA, Giuseppe Busia, and the Head of SSA, Arben Shehu, said that, as an independent oversight institution, the Supreme State Audit, plays an essential role in the fight against corruption.
“As we have seen in the news these days in Albania, the risk of corruption in public procurement is high and efforts to increase oversight in this area as well as the implementation of recommendations to reduce risks have never been more important. “These risks are being taken very seriously by the Albanian authorities and Albania is starting to see the results of new judicial institutions, but more can be done and institutions such as the SSA are critical links in the system in identifying and reporting damages,” Del Monaco said.
