TIRANA, May 22/ATA/ Minister of Health and Social Protection Ogerta Manastirliu shared today the stories of the elderly getting free lenses, a service already extended not only in Tirana, but also in regional hospitals.
About 2,000 elderly people a year benefit from the free cataract package.
“A big step has been taken here, the visit and performance of a free operation. The services are very good,” said an elderly man.
“I came to the French hospital to have eye surgery, to put on lenses. I came in the morning and they put me inside and operated me. I thought I would pay money like we did before, but I did not pay a cent. All service is free of charge. Thank you for the help without any money “, said another elderly beneficiary of the free cataract package.
Expanding free health services has reduced spending out of citizens’ pockets. Previously, such an intervention cost about 35 thousand new lek / lens, today the intervention and lenses are free. This is a step towards universal health coverage./m.m/p.s./
