TIRANA, May 19/ATA/- Specialists of the National Institute of Cultural Heritage carried out an inspection in the Ardenica Monastery, in order to assess the condition and pathologies of the building, to further proceed with the drafting of restoration projects.
Ardenica Monastery is one of the most valuable assets and visited sites in the region of Fier. It is located at the top of a hill, in a rather picturesque position.
The Monastery has unfergone several stages of construction, the oldest one is likely to belong to the Byzantine period. It has the shape of a triangle, covering a surface area of about 2500 m2.
The Church of St. Mary, inside the Monastery offers magnificent frescoes of brothers Kostandin and Athanas Zografi.
The monastery, a cultural monument is of considerable interest in terms of both, the cultural values it presents, as well as its geographical position. //a.i/
