TIRANA, May 12 /ATA/ – By Maela Marini/ “Albania is a country that is rapidly developing in the effort to build Europe within its territory,” Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka, said in her remarks at the event “You are Albania’s ambassador to the EU”.
The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs hosted on Wednesday the meeting “You are the ambassador of Albania to the EU,” which was attended by the Head of EU delegation in Tirana, Luigi Soreca, and a group of students in international relations.
Xhaçka started out the meeting by highly appreciating the contribution of Ambassador Luigi Soreca, emphasizing that “he is not only the Head of EU Delegation, but also a friend of Albania.”
The Minister stressed that “although we are not an EU member country yet, we are Europeans.”
The EU accession process, according to her, is an aspiration of us all and has made our region more stable and safe, promoting security and peace.
Xhaçka said that “thanks to the colossal change in Albania, we are now closer to the European dream than ever.”
“Albania is the country that has seen the biggest transformation as it is endeavoring to build Europe within its territory. Thanks to these efforts, we are closer than ever to fulfilling our European dream,” she said.
Xhaçka said that “Albania has delivered on every condition and requirement to hold the first Intergovernmental Conference and to start accession negotiations, chapter by chapter, which more than just negotiations will be another process of transformation, at the end of which we will become not just a member of the EU, but a country working and developing in line with EU standards.”
“I believe that this enthusiasm of Albanians for the European Union, the willingness and desire to work tirelessly towards this dream and achieving it, is today the best expression of what Europe Day stands for,” said the minister during her speech.
Asked about co-operation with Turkey, Xhaçka said that “Turkey is our strategic partner, just like the US and the EU and we maintain excellent relations.”
