TIRANA, May 10 /ATA/ – Former President of the Republic Bujar Nishani said Monday that he doesn’t expect the April 25 election result to change after the main opposition Democratic Party submitted its complaints to the Central Election Commission a day ago, calling for revote in 9 of Albania’s 12 electoral districts.
Nishani said that the election process has formally concluded, adding that “OSCE/ODIHR, the U.S. Department of State and the European Union have already expressed their opinions on the April 25 parliamentary elections.”
“DP has filed its complaints and we are waiting. Should the elections result changes because of the DP complaints, I will apologize. But I don’t expect this to happen. I have drawn the conclusion that this is an unfair attempt by Basha (DP leader) to feed public opinion and double his incompetence. Basha failed to create a balance. Every political party has important tools, the Chairmanship and the National Council. If the DP chairmanship is re-established through a farce process, its members won’t be provided the opportunity to demonstrate their political personality,” said Nishani, who has publicly called on DP leader to step down.
