TIRANA, March 28 /ATA/ – Air carrier Flydubai launched its first direct flight route between the United Arab Emirates and Albania on Sunday.
The carrier will operate two direct flights to Tirana per week, becoming the first UAE-based airline to have direct flights to this destination.
The Minister of Tourism and Environment Blendi Klosi said that the start of direct flights between the two countries will help increase the number of tourists to Albania and lower the flight cost for these countries.
Addressing a ceremony at the Mother Teresa International Airport to mark the launch of twice-weekly service to Tirana first direct flight, Tourism Minister Klosi said this is a very important day and a new chapter for the Albanian airport in general, and for Albanian flights from Dubai and distant countries.
“It is a very important event for Albanian flights, because as the pandemic is nearing its end we would really need new markets this year. Dubai represents a very important destination in the relations of Albanian tourism with the Asian and Arab world and we will be provided the opportunity to attract visitors from a very important market for us through the two flights a week,” Klosi said.
Klosi added that taking notice of the growing demand of the Albanian citizens to visit Dubai he expects the number of flights to double during summer and autumn months.
“2021 will mark an important year for Albanian tourism and tourism restart is our top priority. The COVID-19 vaccination campaign will help to relax Albania’s tourism industry and this is one of the main demands made by the tourism operators. We should now start efforts to communicate with tour operators that should take advantage of the new infrastructure built in Albania. 2021 will be a year of hope for Albanian tourism and we expect to succeed in delivering on our major objective of hosting 10 million international visitors a year,” Klosi said.
Promoting Albania, the UAE-based airline carrier Flydubai said; “Tirana, Albania’s capital, offers visitors a wide range of heritage and cultural sites including several museums. In addition, Albania is well known for its castles and UNESCO World Heritage sites. Its nature parks and mountains, rivers and lakes, and thermal waters attract visitors looking for outdoor activities and adventures.
Flights from Dubai to Tirana International Airport will operate on Thursdays and Sundays.
