TIRANA, March 17 /ATA/ – By I. Vata/ “The Basha tax or the flat tax is successful only in Russia,” the SP MP Ervin Bushati stated on Wednesday, while emphasizing that 97.5% of Albanians have benefited from progressive tax.
In a televised interview, talking about the progressive tax, Bushati said that all countries across the world are promoting the welfare state especially after the pandemic.
“Progressive tax is applied in all countries of the world except for a few post-communist countries which experimented after the ’90s a type of flat tax that fell out of fashion in ’96 and the only case where the Basha tax, the flat tax is successful is only Russia, ” said Bushati.
“The progressive tax is applied in the US, England, Italy, France, Canada, Greece and every country in the world, and flat tax is no longer applied in normal capitalist countries,” he said.
“Today the world has plunged into the deepest recession since World War II and in turn countries worldwide are taking measures to mitigate the impact. The US President has proposed a USD 1,9 trillion stimulus package equal to 15% of GDP to shore up the economy,” he said.
Bushati added that the fair progressive tax benefited 97.5% of Albanians.
